Since then, its management has been handled by the Way Kambas National Park Office, replacing the role of the Natural Resources Conservation Sub Office (SBKSDA).
Way Kambas was designed to protect the natural habitat of endangered species, such as the Sumatran elephant and the Sumatran rhinoceros.
Over time, the park has also developed into a center for education and research on Indonesia’s tropical ecosystems.
